Anyone else had issues getting the wand to learn certain signals from this controller ?

I can get volume up and down OK, but not channel up or channel down, Home, etc. Trying on the same setting (e.g. tap the top) I can learn some commands but not others - which leads me to believe some of the most useful commands are not trainable on the wand.

This is a big negative if true - any comments anyone?

Could you choose a simple gesture and try to learn the commands with it. You have to be careful to point the infrared emitter of your remote to the wand tip and press the button at the right time (quick pulses) and press it only once and then firmly.

Unfortunately I don't own one of these, perhaps someone else can help.

HTH

The controller is no 5 on this page http://www.virginmedia.com/help/tv/vplu ... -codes.php

Using the tap on top gesture I can get it to learn 'volume up' (or down) every time (I get the confirmation from the wand that it has learnt it). Without moving anything I try the same gesture and never manage to learn the 'channel up'.

These two commands are issued by the vertical rocker-bars on either side of the middle section of the remote controller, so they are directly comparable in terms of use of the controller.

In similar mode we can get the wand to learn the 'digit' keys from the controller, but not 'Home', 'OK', or 'TV' - which are more useful.

I have tried long presses and very short presses on the controller - many times for both. I have changed the batteries in the controller. I have started to run out of ideas.

This is somewhat sad as my school-age daughter nearly bankrupt herself to buy this for us for Christmas, so you can imagine the angst at the moment.

Would be pleased to hear from anyone else who has used this controller and wand.

I forwarded your problems to the wand makers.

You don't by chance know someone who owns a universal remote control that also can control the virgin box? And try the codes of this remote with the wand?

You can certainly return the wand if you don't get your remote control working with it.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Michael

Hello,

Sorry for the trouble you've been having. We've tested the Kymera Wand on a couple of different Virgin Media remotes - the first one (type 8 in your link above) worked fine with no difficulty at all, but the second one we tried (type 3 in your link) worked fine for some functions but for other functions (e.g. channel up/down) it would only work once in each direction. Is this similar to the problems you're having?

If so, there is a workaround for this issue - see my post in this thread:

http://www.wand-control.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=68

...but please let us know if this doesn't help.

Best regards,

Richard
